Gary D. Cannon is a dynamic young choral conductor based in Seattle, Washington. A doctoral student and teaching assistant at the University of Washington, he currently directs the UW University Singers and is assistant director of the Chamber Singers. Cannon is also chorusmaster of the Northwest Mahler Festival, and choir director at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Lynnwood, Washington. While an undergraduate at the University of California, Davis, he was director of the Davis Festival Singers and the student vocal/instrumental ensemble Pulchritudina.

As a tenor, Cannon's wide experience includes singing in professional choral ensembles, as concert soloist and recitalist, and in opera. He is a regular member of The Tudor Choir, and heads the voice faculty at the Midsummer Musical Retreat. In addition to regular participation in the choirs at the University of Washington, Cannon has performed solo work with the UW Symphony Orchestra, Eastside Symphony, Issaquah Chorale, and at First Presbyterian Church in Seattle. He also premiered the role of Dennis Kearney in Jerome Rosen's opera Emperor Norton of the U.S.A. Cannon has studied with Julian Patrick, Stephanie Friedman and Lenore Turner-Heinson.

Cannon is also considered one of America's leading researchers of the music of William Walton, including serving for as webmaster of www.williamwalton.net for the past eight years. A semi-active composer, his current projects include a song-cycle on texts of Shel Silverstein for tenor, piano and percussion; a suite for small orchestra based on stories of Katherine Mansfield, and an opera on Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None.
